Tehilla Ben Gai

The Center of Science Education

Abstract:
Hemda - the Center for Science Education in Tel-Aviv will engage in a number of activities, having a direct bearing to the World Year of Physics (WYP 2005). The first of such activities is the Competition of "Walking on water", combining a good knowledge of physics and technological skills of the participating 12th grade students, and a lot of fun. The competition took place at the end of September. An inflated water pool, 10 meters long, was placed at the backyard of the Hemda building. The participants were requested to design and build "walking on Water shoes", using simple materials, and no motor devices were permitted. The winner was the participant who managed to put on the walking gear, walk the 10 meters on water and take of the gear, at the shortest time. The winners in this unique competition were students from the "Lady Davis" high school.
